Salary Grade: 26

Length of Work Year: 225 days (11 months), 8 hours per day

Reports To: Head Custodian/Principal/Custodial Director

Summary of Responsibilities: Under general supervision, this role is responsible for executing custodial duties within an assigned educational facility. The incumbent will ensure that the environment is safe, appealing, and conducive to learning for students, staff, and visitors. This position encompasses a range of cleaning and maintenance tasks that contribute to the overall functionality of the school.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Ability to organize, compare, and evaluate data and information.
  2. Strong communication skills for information exchange and clarification.
  3. Proficiency in operating custodial equipment and tools.
  4. Ability to interpret various types of reference and advisory data.
  5. Basic arithmetic skills for performing calculations.
  6. Capability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  7. Dependability and flexibility in work performance.
  8. Judgment and creativity in handling routine tasks with occasional changes.
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with any relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to operate custodial equipment safely and meet the physical demands of the role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements: This position requires significant physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting moderately heavy objects (up to 100 pounds).

Overtime Availability: Yes

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Utilizes electrical cleaning devices to maintain the cleanliness of the facility.
  2. Safely applies cleaning chemicals according to established guidelines.
  3. Ensures all areas are opened and secured as per daily routines.
  4. Conducts various cleaning tasks including waste disposal, window washing, and dusting.
  5. Sanitizes critical areas such as restrooms and food service locations.
  6. Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks requiring specialized equipment.
  7. Responds to emergencies to mitigate hazardous conditions.
  8. Moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  9. Maintains cleanliness of tools and storage areas.
  10. Reports any equipment issues or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  11. Performs routine maintenance on custodial equipment.
  12. Assists with general facility maintenance tasks.
  13. Works independently or as part of a team depending on task requirements.
