This is a full-time position as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Greensville Correctional Center. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to patients, including administering medications and providing first aid and basic life support.
- Screen patients for sick call and maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff.
- Record all pertinent information into the medical record and interact with other departments as needed.
- Promote continued competence through education and certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
- Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
