Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Boating Instructor to join our team at Girl Scouts of Western New York Inc. as a Waterfront Program Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing and operating the boating program, ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Develop and implement boating and sailing activities that align with the Girl Scout mission and camp goals.
  • Staff Training: Instruct staff in boating and sailing procedures and activities during pre-camp training.
  • Water Safety: Teach water safety, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing safety to campers and staff.
  • Equipment Management: Responsible for the care and use of boating and sailing equipment and supplies.
  • Inventory Management: Conduct opening and closing inventory of boating and sailing equipment and supplies.
  • Teamwork: Work with the Trip Director to set aside supplies necessary for the out-of-camp canoe trip and conduct canoe trainings.
  • Leadership: Lead by example, emphasize safety, and follow all ACA, GSUSA, and NYSDOH standards and regulations.
  • Communication: Participate in all aspects of camp, including pre-camp, open house, and post-camp, and attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Minimum age 18, current First Aid & CPR for the professional rescuer, and Lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or equivalent.
  • Experience: Sound judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents, calm and quick response during emergencies, and certification or documented boating and sailing experience.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, ability to project a high level of professionalism, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to guide and supervise children and adults, desire and ability to work with and relate to children and peers in an outdoor environment, and good health and stamina necessary to work in the camp setting.
