The University of Maryland Medical System, recognized as a leading academic medical center, offers a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to advance their careers in critical care. Our facility is dedicated to enhancing patient care and advancing nursing science.
Program DetailsThis is a 12-month Critical Care Fellowship designed for licensed and certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs). The program has received Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and provides numerous continuing education opportunities.
Participants will experience:
- Comprehensive rotations through all critical care areas
- A dedicated day for didactic learning each week
- Hands-on simulation and skills lab experiences
- A full compensation and benefits package
This fellowship takes place at our downtown campus and is structured to support the transition of new Advanced Practice Providers into critical care roles. The program emphasizes clinical immersion and mentorship, allowing fellows to develop essential skills in a supportive environment.
Fellowship StructureThe fellowship consists of:
- Intensive clinical rotations in various critical care settings
- Weekly academic sessions and multidisciplinary lectures
- Opportunities to engage in case studies and simulation-based training
- Invasive procedural skills labs and professional development activities
Fellows will work closely with experienced ICU Advanced Practice Providers and Physicians, fostering a collaborative learning atmosphere that enhances critical thinking and clinical judgment.
Completion and CommitmentUpon successful completion of the fellowship, participants will receive a certificate and are expected to commit to a minimum of two years of employment with the University of Maryland Medical System, contingent on position availability and clinical fit.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this fellowship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of a CCNE/NLN accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program or an accredited Physician Assistant program with board certification
- References from two faculty members who supervised clinical rotations
- National Board Certification as an Acute Care NP or PA
- A letter of interest (maximum 500 words)
- Availability for an in-person interview if selected as a finalist
- Submission of academic transcripts
