About NCFTA: The National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA) is a globally focused non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh, dedicated to the identification, mitigation, and neutralization of cybercrime threats. The NCFTA collaborates with experts across public, private, and academic sectors to share real-time information and proactively identify cyber threats, assisting partners in implementing preventive measures.

Internship Program Details: The NCFTA provides an innovative internship experience for talented students in a rapidly evolving sector, aimed at enhancing their professional development and academic pursuits. This paid internship program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students, spanning an intensive 12-week period. Interns will engage in areas such as intellectual property fraud, financial fraud, and malware analysis, thereby building expertise in the field of intelligence analysis. From day one, interns will receive training and mentorship, allowing for swift acclimatization to the organization. Orientation sessions will familiarize interns with NCFTA's resources, policies, and procedures.

Intern Responsibilities: Selected interns will contribute to various organizational initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting research and data collection using diverse tools and applications.
  • Engaging in proactive research through open sources to produce comprehensive reports.
  • Collaborating with NCFTA partners and peers, and participating in program meetings.

Internships within the Malware & Cyber Threats Program are particularly technical, seeking candidates with a strong technical background. Responsibilities may involve:

  • Writing scripts to automate processes (e.g., Python).
  • Reviewing and analyzing malicious code (e.g., C, C++, VB.NET, Assembly, Java).
  • Creating and managing databases (MySQL, MS SQL Server, Postgres).
  • Conducting technical threat actor hunting and identity attribution to cybercriminals.

Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and eligible for a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Major studies in relevant fields such as International Affairs, Intelligence Studies, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Desirable language skills include Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Chinese, and Eastern European languages.
  • Extensive experience with computers and networking is preferred.
