The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Educator plays a crucial role in enhancing the skills and knowledge of EMS personnel through comprehensive training programs. This position involves the coordination and delivery of various educational courses aimed at improving emergency response capabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate the development and implementation of EMS training protocols and educational materials.
- Lead and instruct courses for EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics, including refresher and initial training sessions.
- Conduct American Heart Association (AHA) courses such as Heart Saver, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Organize and deliver specialized training programs including ITLS, PEPP, ASLS, AMLS, and GEMS.
- Participate in community health initiatives, corporate health fairs, and injury prevention programs.
- Assist in the creation of educational presentations and materials as required.
- Support the Medical Director and Physicians in delivering EMS lectures at local continuing education events.
- Ensure the maintenance and setup of essential training equipment used in educational sessions.
- Engage in additional educational programs and meetings as directed by the EMS Institute leadership.
- Conduct data tracking and collection as necessary to assess program effectiveness.
- Maintain current licenses and certifications relevant to the position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and standards.
- Refer to departmental documentation for specific responsibilities during orientation.
- Ensure compliance with regulations regarding the protection of patient health information (PHI).
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Associate's Degree (Preferred)
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in municipal Fire/EMS services is required.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in EMS-I and AHA Instructor certifications is required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to analyze and solve problems effectively.
- Excellent client service, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities are preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using PCs, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard office equipment.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Ohio Driver's License (Required)
- State of Ohio Paramedic certification (Required)
