This role involves executing advanced skills in various trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, drywall, roofing, and other recognized craft areas. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts general upkeep on grounds surrounding municipal facilities, including pump stations and offices; engages in skilled landscaping and understands the use of landscaping chemicals and fertilizers.
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and various plans to execute tasks such as carpentry, roofing, and the construction or renovation of city-owned properties.
- Utilizes equipment and hand tools to complete projects, including preparation and cleanup duties.
- Operates heavy machinery, snow removal equipment, and other tools as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities or respond to emergencies.
- As a lead worker, supervises both permanent and seasonal staff, assigns tasks, and ensures project completion. Provides training and motivation to team members.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of three years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping, particularly in parks or similar public or private settings, including at least one year in a supervisory role.
- Proficient knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and landscaping techniques, as well as carpentry methods and tools.
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures for various tools and equipment, including mowers and trimmers, and the ability to repair sprinkler systems.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Engages in moderately heavy physical activity for extended periods, with exposure to various environmental conditions, including noise and extreme weather.
- May experience intermittent stress due to human interactions.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in carpentry and/or construction.
