Painter and Decorator

We are seeking a skilled Painter and Decorator to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the interior and exterior of our buildings are beautifully maintained and safe for our patients, employees, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Apply a variety of finishes and specialized products to furniture, new woodwork, and paneling, ensuring a high-quality finish.
- Read designs, match patterns, measure and cut wall covering material to specifications, and calculate and mix paste to prepare the wall covering materials.
- Repair wall sections and replace wall with rough and smooth finish plaster, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
- Compute job costs and order parts, equipment, supplies, and materials, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Clean and perform basic maintenance of tools and other materials, and properly store these materials to prevent damage or loss.
- Schedule and coordinate day-to-day activities to minimize disruptions to our operations.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to chemical handling and disposal procedures.
- A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Painting and Decorating.
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in commercial/residential painting and/or experience working in a paint shop.
- Completion of a Painter and Decorator state indentured apprenticeship program.
- Current driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards.
- Proficiency using paint brushes, rollers, and a spray gun.
- Basic computer and mathematical skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem solve.
- Must be able to twist, kneel, bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and reach above shoulders as needed to perform tasks.
- Must be able to withstand constant standing/walking.
- Must be able to climb up and down a ladder throughout the workday.
- Must have functional vision in order to distinguish colors.
- Must be able to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead, lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
- Exposed to mechanical, chemical, and explosive hazards, as well as sharp instruments.
- Will be exposed to fumes from mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, paint, and varnish remover.
- Atmosphere may contain dust, odors, and fumes.
