Job Summary:

As a Senior Registered Nurse at Johnson Regional Medical Center, you will provide direct and indirect patient care, communicating effectively with physicians, Nurse Managers, and co-workers to ensure seamless care delivery. Your ability to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition will be crucial in providing high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments on patients and reassess as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patients.
  • Utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate patients and families on pain management.
  • Revise plan of care as indicated by patient response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and resident care unit's policies and procedures.
  • Interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action.
  • Provide patient care considering needs specific to standard of care for patient's age.
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Follow seven medication rights to reduce potential for medication errors.
  • Formulate teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning, involving family as needed.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
  • Function as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and involve patient/family in formation of plan of care.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patient population served, interpreting data about patient status to identify age-specific needs.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Support and maintain culture of safety and quality, consulting other departments as needed for interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Communicate effectively with Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians, maintaining good working relationships within and between departments.
  • Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family, communicating with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
  • Document care according to current standards and policies, managing and operating equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care as needed, demonstrating ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful conditions.
Requirements:
  • Adhere to dress code, maintaining neat and clean appearance.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including federal, state, local regulations, and accrediting organization standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled, completing work within designated time.
  • Wear identification while on duty, using computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Complete inservices and return in a timely fashion.
  • Attend annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
  • Attend 12 staff meetings annually, or read and return monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Represent organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate mission, ethics, and goals of hospital, as well as focus statement of department.
Regulatory Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of practice.
  • Current BLS.
Skills:
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
Physical Demands:
  • Mobility, sight, hearing, verbal communication, changes in temperature, exposure to disagreeable elements, exposure to biological, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 450 pounds.
