The post cardiothoracic surgical unit specializes in the care of patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgeries, cardiac catheterizations, structural heart interventions, electrophysiology procedures, and those requiring advanced telemetry monitoring.

Preferred Advanced Skills:
Expertise in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management, familiarity with vasoactive and antiarrhythmic medications, and proficiency in managing chest tubes.
- Administers physician orders, dispenses medications, initiates IVs, performs treatments, procedures, and special tests, and documents care in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to assess and identify patient conditions.
- Evaluates patient needs and responses to the care provided.
- Utilizes sound nursing judgment in making patient care management decisions.
- Provides primary and emergency care for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Dispenses over-the-counter and prescription medications as prescribed.
- Collaborates with the nursing team to develop a comprehensive Plan of Care for all patients.
- Guides and directs ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program leading to a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree.
- Current NYS Registered Nurse license is required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained and maintained.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of clinical RN experience in Med-Surg or Progressive Care is necessary.
- Strong communication, prioritization, organizational, and time-management skills are essential.
- Knowledge of quality improvement concepts, principles, and problem-solving techniques is required, with the ability to apply them in support of departmental and patient care quality enhancement.
This role may involve access to sensitive information pertaining to Albany Medical Center, its patients, affiliates, and partners, including but not limited to HIPAA Protected Health Information and other information governed by Federal and New York State laws.
