Job Summary

The Arkansas Department of Correction/Department of Community Correction (ADC/DCC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer I to join our team. As a Correctional Officer I, you will play a critical role in maintaining the security and order of our correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the security and conduct of inmates in cells, during group meetings, meals, bathing, at recreation, during visitations, and on work and other assignments.
  • Maintain perimeter security from tower by watching for escapees and/or disturbances.
  • Maintain security at front gate by logging in visitors to unit.
  • Perform security checks of building and grounds including shakedowns and strip searches of inmates.
  • Maintain log for work release inmates.
  • Write incident reports and take disciplinary action on inmates/residents violating rules.
  • Escort inmates/residents to visitations, court, and work assignments.
  • Attend shift briefing to discuss incidents, problems, and weak points in security.
Requirements
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
Working Conditions

Frequent shift work, exposure to danger, and emergency on-call duty may be required.
