Overview:

The Healthcare Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the examination, treatment, and overall care of patients. This position also involves managing phone communications, scheduling appointments, securing insurance approvals for procedures, and preparing medical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:


• Adheres to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Retrieves patient records relevant to their visit.

• Conducts patient intake processes, including but not limited to measuring vital signs such as blood pressure, weight, height, pulse, temperature, and respiration, along with completing patient history forms.

• Executes Point of Care Testing (POCT) procedures as trained.

• Ensures the cleanliness of examination rooms and medical instruments, properly disposing of contaminated and disposable materials in accordance with clinic standards, Infection Control, and OSHA regulations.

• Orders medical supplies following clinical guidelines.

• Accurately documents all incidents in line with hospital policies and procedures.

• Verifies that all patient information is correctly scanned and that the medical record is comprehensive and accurate with all necessary reports (signed by a physician) prior to the patient's visit.

• Demonstrates the ability to fulfill assigned patient care duties in a manner that addresses the age-specific and developmental needs of the patients served by the department.

• Applies AIDET principles consistently.

• Maintains compliance with HIPAA standards at all times.

• Assists in transporting patients to various areas within the healthcare facility as required.

• Performs administrative tasks including, but not limited to, filing, faxing, copying, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and making phone calls.

• May travel to different clinical locations as necessary to meet patient needs.

• Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
