Overview:
Under the direct oversight of the Clinical Manager (or designated representative), the Nurse Clinician I is responsible for implementing, supervising, and assessing the nursing care provided to each patient. This role utilizes a comprehensive nursing process in alignment with established hospital and departmental protocols. The focus is on planning care from admission through discharge, taking into account the aging process across the lifespan, including various developmental stages and cultural considerations. This position is situated within an Intermediate Surgical Step Down Unit, catering to a diverse range of surgical diagnoses such as vascular, thoracic, complex abdominal surgeries, and renal transplant patients.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care with a focus on quality and safety.
- Provide leadership by delegating tasks, supervising, and actively participating in nursing care activities performed by ancillary staff.
- Assess the effectiveness of patient care and identify areas for enhancement.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, families, and community services to ensure optimal patient care outcomes and discharge planning.
- Evaluate and provide appropriate education tailored to the needs of patients and their families.
- Engage in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and research activities.
- Utilize available resources to ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Maintain clinical competencies as per established credentialing standards, including mandatory safety education and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS as applicable.
- Identify personal growth opportunities and participate in educational programs and professional organizations.
- Act as a role model and mentor for new graduate nurses and less experienced staff.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities for the patient care unit as assigned.

Additional Information:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan, considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in every aspect of care.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Ability to visually and audibly monitor patient status.
- Physical capability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
- Exposure to a patient care environment.
- Physical stamina for extensive walking and standing, including lifting, positioning, and transporting patients on stretchers.
