Psychiatric Technician

The Psychiatric Technician (Safety) will be responsible for providing direct care to patients in a secure treatment area. This includes creating a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment, applying mental health principles, and supervising patient activities.

• Help to create a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients
• Apply mental health principles and relationship security with patients
• Supervise patient activities
• Perform custody tasks, including supervision of patient activities
• Shakedown and inspect facilities to identify security breaches
• Observe and intervene in patient behavior that may injure people, damage property, or signal impending escape attempts
• Apply and demonstrate knowledge of correct methods in the prevention and management of assaultive behavior (PMAB)
• Perform nursing procedures, including administering medications and observing patients' physical condition and behavior

• Current employment with the State of California in the same classification or a comparable classification
• Successful completion of the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification
• Obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or a comparable classification

This position requires working in a secure treatment area and may involve 12-hour shifts and other alternate schedules. The position also requires passing a drug screening test and a background investigation.
