Position Overview:

The Environmental Safety Specialist at Cook Group will act as a representative for the organization in matters related to health and safety. This role involves the development, enhancement, management, and auditing of a comprehensive site safety program while delivering essential safety and health engineering services to staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently create, organize, and maintain critical documentation and systems essential for the engineering team or department.
  • Coordinate safety initiatives, uphold OSHA mandated procedures, and monitor compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and local safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel to identify potential hazards and recommend or implement necessary corrective actions and improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee safety procedures to ensure they are current and effectively utilized.
  • Participate in incident investigations, safety audits, and other safety-related activities.
  • Facilitate and conduct employee safety training, including new employee orientation, annual refresher courses, and contractor training as required.
  • Support facility projects by providing expertise on safety matters.
  • Stay informed about current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
  • Review employee safety programs to assess their effectiveness.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Meet company quality and quantity standards.
  • Exhibit effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or a minimum of 2 years of experience directly related to the essential job functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Background in enhancing environmental health and safety processes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards.
  • Experience in training related to Environmental Health & Safety programs.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

  • Remain calm and receptive in fast-paced situations.
  • Be physically capable of performing tasks such as sitting at a desk, attending meetings, and working on a computer, as well as standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, twisting, and bending.
  • Spend a significant portion of some days on foot in a warehouse setting.
  • Perform PPE gowning procedures daily to access the manufacturing floor, including wearing safety glasses, gowns, and gloves.
