About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Estimator to join our team at Timothy Jon & Associates. As a Commercial Estimator, you will play a critical role in the preconstruction process, working closely with clients, architects, and engineers to deliver accurate and timely estimates for commercial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preconstruction Coordination: Coordinate and perform preconstruction tasks, including reviewing plans and specifications, calculating labor, equipment, and material costs, and preparing bid invitations.
- Estimating and Bidding: Develop and present estimates to clients, including calculating accurate labor, equipment, and material costs, and reviewing subcontractor bids.
- Project Planning and Scheduling: Assist the operations team in planning procedures for construction, including determining starting and completion times, staffing requirements, and general requirements for each phase of construction.
- Communication and Collaboration: Develop and maintain positive communication with subcontractors and suppliers, including researching and qualifying new subcontractors and suppliers, and maintaining lists of preferred subcontractors and suppliers.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare project documents, material release schedules, client information, project schedules, and other documentation to ensure a steady stream of information to the Project Managers.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience: Four-year degree in an accredited construction-related curriculum and minimum 2 years of experience in estimating, design-related activities, or project management.
- Technical Skills: Experienced in the use of computer-based estimating systems (On-screen take-off) and Excel.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience with design-build, construction management, and hard bid projects, with a preference for shopping center, retail, warehouse/distribution centers, and entertainment projects.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans and specifications relative to the scope of work and schedule specified for each project.
