The Pulmonary Care Specialist is accountable for delivering respiratory care to critically ill, non-critical, and chronically ill patients across various age groups, including adults, children, and neonates, under the supervision of a physician with minimal oversight.

This role involves conducting patient evaluations and implementing respiratory care strategies. The specialist will perform a range of technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures throughout the healthcare facility.

CHRISTUS Health is recognized for its comprehensive acute care services, offering a wide array of diagnostic and surgical specialties, particularly in cardiac, cancer, and stroke treatment.

As a leading emergency care provider, it operates the only Level II Trauma Center in the region, staffed with healthcare professionals trained in emergency medicine.

The facility features a modern Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and surgical operating rooms.

As an educational institution, it collaborates with a prominent health science center and is accredited for its Chest Pain Center and Stroke Team. The facility is home to essential programs, including a Primary Stroke Center, a nationally accredited Cancer Center, and a recognized Chest Pain Center.

The Pavilion at CHRISTUS Health is home to the Heart Network, which has been acknowledged as one of the top cardiovascular hospitals in the nation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of ventilators, including setup and operation;
  • Administration of oxygen delivery systems and therapeutic monitoring;
  • Analysis of chest imaging;
  • Collection and evaluation of blood gases;
  • EKG interpretation;
  • Maintenance and organization of equipment and supplies;
  • Participation in accreditation surveys.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapists may take on leadership roles or act as Team Leaders.
  • Advanced practice competencies may encompass:
  • Management and monitoring of therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2;
  • Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests;
  • Monitoring hemodynamics;
  • Analyzing waveforms;
  • Performing polysomnography;

Qualifications:
Candidates must meet licensure and certification standards - a minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred. A valid RT or RCP License in the state of practice is required, along with BLS certification and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) status from the NBRC.
