Medical Supply Specialist

This role is designated as a Medical Supply Specialist within the Logistics Service of the Veterans Health Administration. As a Medical Supply Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that various hospital departments, including wards, clinics, and operating rooms, are adequately stocked with essential supplies and materials. This includes both sterile and non-sterile medical products, instrument sets, and equipment.
Eligibility Criteria

Federal employees classified as "surplus" or "displaced" are eligible. - Current or former competitive service federal employees.

This position is open to internal and status candidates; eligible Veterans may apply under merit promotion procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Managing stock inventory and preparing materials for distribution; ensuring timely replenishment and maintaining accurate records of stock levels.
- Reporting any issues related to supplies, equipment, and procedures to the Lead or Supervisor.
- Providing assistance and information to customers regarding medical supplies.
- Monitoring expiration dates, rotating stock to minimize waste, and removing outdated items from circulation.
- Overseeing critical supply levels.
- Conducting daily inventory checks using barcoding systems to facilitate timely restocking.
- Reconciling discrepancies between inventory records and physical counts.
- Coordinating the distribution of items based on established requirements within computerized inventory systems.
- Ensuring prompt delivery of supplies in sterile and functional condition.
- Preparing specialty carts as needed.
- Maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas according to aseptic standards.
- Receiving and processing supplies into the medical center's inventory.
Position Description: Medical Supply Specialist
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Background/security investigation may be necessary.
- Selected candidates will complete an online onboarding process.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Veterans Health Administration personnel.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements is also necessary.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 is required. Examples of specialized experience include: Providing supplies to clinical and administrative areas; managing inventory; monitoring expiration dates; and utilizing automated systems for inventory management.
Education: Applicants may substitute education for experience. Completion of 4 years above high school in any relevant field is acceptable.
Combination: A combination of specialized experience and education may also qualify.
