Job Overview
The role involves providing direct tutorial, training, and instructional lab assistance to students, educators, and laboratory staff within the classroom and lab environments.
Key Responsibilities
Assist learners with coursework and laboratory tasks in both classroom and open lab settings.
Engage with students one-on-one or in small groups to demonstrate and review materials covered in lectures, procedures, and the use of equipment and materials.
Review completed student assignments and recommend study resources.
Support the preparation of instructional materials, including setting up necessary lab equipment and supplies for laboratory tasks.
Monitor student and staff activities to ensure a safe educational environment. Provide orientation to faculty, staff, and students regarding the use of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Establish and maintain an inventory system for instructional materials and equipment, including computer hardware and software. Coordinate the distribution and retrieval of classroom resources in a self-paced learning environment. Maintain usage records and monitor the return of materials.
Issue tools, materials, and equipment to students and instructors, coordinating the distribution and retrieval of classroom and lab resources; assist with the collection of supplies such as fabric, tile, laminate, wood, paint, or sample materials; organize, classify, and file incoming samples; update, sort, and replace or donate outdated samples.
Administrative support duties include ordering supplies, obtaining quotes for equipment requests, following up on orders; receiving, verifying, and filing supplies; preparing and processing work orders and design requests; greeting visitors, answering and screening telephone calls, and providing program information to students.
Participate in required workshops and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE:
A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and must show completed coursework and degrees conferred.
Candidates must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.- Ability to operate assigned equipment and troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment, including routine repair and service.
- Experience assisting individuals in a lab setting and conducting orientations.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
- Experience compiling data, generating reports, and developing and maintaining inventory records.
- Experience working with the current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
Special Conditions:
- The El Paso Community College is building a pool of Applicants for part-time staff positions. This pool will be accessed when an opening arises. Your application will remain active for approximately one (1) year. After this time, you will need to re-apply if you are still interested in remaining a part of the pool.
