Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate PACU Registered Nurse to join our team at St. Peter's Hospital. As a critical care RN, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care in the post-anesthesia care unit, ensuring a smooth and safe recovery for patients undergoing surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recovery of surgeries in various specialties, including general, colorectal, gynecological, urological, ENT, plastics, thoracic & esophageal, vascular, orthopedic & neuro
  • Knowledge of anesthesia types, including general-endotracheal, regional, spinal/epidural, and Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC)
  • Understanding of recovery needs in diverse patient populations, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, as well as those with special needs
  • Adherence to patient care best practices based on the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) core curriculum
  • Management of airway, postoperative pain, and nausea, as well as hemodynamics and correction of hypothermia
  • Progression to Phase II recovery versus admission plan of care
  • Treatment of malignant hyperthermia, reversal of opiates, benzodiazepines, and anesthetic agents, and proper body mechanics and use of lift/transfer assist devices
  • Emotional and physical support of patients and colleagues during emergence delirium
Requirements
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York
  • ASN required; BSN preferred
  • Phase I recovery experience preferred; critical care experience highly recommended
  • Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) mandatory upon completion of orientation
  • Ability to assess, plan, direct, intervene, and evaluate patient care
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to accommodate an on-call rotation
