Role Overview:
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) will deliver comprehensive medical care under the guidance of physicians at AdventHealth Medical Group. This position involves conducting thorough patient assessments, formulating treatment strategies, and providing patient education. In certain circumstances, the APRN may have the authority to prescribe medications. Care will be administered in accordance with the hospital's medical staff policies and procedures, focusing on complex surgical patients both before and after surgery. The APRN will assist in significant surgical operations and carry out minor procedures.

- Identifies abnormalities by ordering and/or performing necessary diagnostic tests, including X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory analyses.
- Interprets patient test results and provides pre- and post-operative care along with patient education.
- Administers therapeutic procedures, including injections, suturing, managing drains, dressing changes, and wound care in both clinic and hospital settings.
- Conducts hospital rounds for surgical consultations and oversees pre- and post-operative patients.
- Assists the supervising physician with discharge services, including planning, summaries, and coordinating follow-up care.
- Acts as the surgical first-assist during operative procedures.
- Positions and supports patients during extended periods in the operating room.
- Performs surgical skin closures, suturing, and related operative care.
- Facilitates efficient workflows in both clinic and operating room environments.
- Provides on-call hospital services in support of the supervising physician, including weekends and 24-hour periods.
- Participates in emergency care services related to the surgical specialty, including consultations and surgical interventions.
- Instructs and counsels patients and their families as appropriate.
- Documents patient care services accurately in departmental records.
- Enhances the supervising physician's effectiveness by being an integral part of the team, addressing patient care issues, and contributing to staff development through educational opportunities.
- Serves as a mentor for physician assistant students participating in AdventHealth's approved programs.
- Implements protocols and processes to enhance workflows and increase operational efficiencies.
- Maintains a safe and hygienic work environment by adhering to established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Promotes a culture of safety and quality to safeguard patients and staff.
- Respects patient rights by adhering to privacy regulations, HIPAA, and ethical standards.
- Complies with legal and professional requirements by staying informed about existing and new legislation.
- Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development by fulfilling mandatory educational requirements, maintaining certifications, and participating in continuing education.
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of techniques for diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for pre- and post-operative patients.
- Proficient in delivering personal services that meet quality standards and evaluating patient satisfaction.
- Active listening and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make informed decisions using scientific methods.
Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner studies.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Two years of experience in neurosurgery or a related surgical specialty.
- Two years of experience assisting in surgical procedures within the operating room.
Licensure and Certification:
- ARNP License in the State of Florida.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Ongoing education required to maintain licensure.
