Job Summary
The Certified Substance Abuse Counselor II will be responsible for delivering face-to-face rehabilitative programming services in our Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP). This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Responsibilities
- Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
- Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum and lead face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic processes.
- Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
- Work directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
- Review treatment plans, evaluate, and record treatment progress, and document visible changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor of program participants.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant records and evaluate and document the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
- Complete all delivery documentation requirements, summarize participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes, and prepare accurate, concise, informative reports, records, and plans that are consistent with Amity standards.
- Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plan, and prepare transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
- Collaborate with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institution staff, support, and collaborate co-faculty, including Supervisors, Directors, and Regional Directors.
- Participate in monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, technical assistance training, or other training as appropriate.
Requirements
- A Master's Degree or above in a social service-related field and Licensed by, or registered with, the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS; OR
- A Bachelor's Degree in a social service-related field and AOD certified; OR
- An Associate's Degree in social service-related field, AOD certified, and six (6) months of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
- AOD certified and one (1) to two (2) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
- Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse, appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social effects of drug abuse.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and communication skills, operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
- Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
