Construction Inspector I

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Inspector to join our Outside Plant team at Windstream. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of our fiber optic construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate design, permitting, material acquisition, construction, and tie-in of outside plant construction projects and programs.
- Monitor all aspects of the project and expedite or escalate as necessary to achieve cost, quality, and schedule goals.
- Make recommendations to management regarding ways to get the project back on track to meet cost, quality, and schedule goals.
- Manage the post-sale end-to-end service delivery process of our SMB Fiber to the premise customer orders, including coordination with all resources required to ensure customer service is activated efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Manage complex circuit installations via SMB Fiber to the premise delivery, working closely with internal departments while building strong relationships to ensure continuity of workflow and attainment of customer committed due dates and departmental goals.
- Conceptual development and budget management of projects and programs, including route development, estimate costs, planning projects, scheduling projects, and mapping.
- Identify pole ownership, right-of-way, and permit requirements for proposed routes.
- Communicate with city, county, and state permitting agencies.
- Work with private property owners, such as individuals and railroad companies, to secure easements and licenses.
- Work with telephone companies and private building owners to secure building entrance approval and installation of building entrances.
- Recommend contractors and contract negotiations.
- Develop construction bid documents and bid analysis.
- Complete and secure city, state, and county permit applications.
- Complete pole attachment applications and pole line make-ready review.
- Monitor contractor progress, contractor quality inspection, and timely turnover of assigned projects.
- Monitor and ensure SSP (Single Source Provider) is on track to meet service level agreements.
- Summarize potential solutions and make logical recommendations to management.
- Read and interpret construction documents, including prints and plans, as well as splicing diagrams used in the splicing of fiber optics.
- Review preliminary construction prints from right-of-way authorities and determine potential conflicts; attend utility coordination meetings and construction progress meetings as needed.
- Aptitude to learn quickly and adjust rapidly to developing business needs.
- Excellent organizational, detail-oriented, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
- Strong and effective technical communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Ability to analyze problems and priorities and make decisions.
- Ability to provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Ability to be assertive and escalate with various internal departments and external teams as needed to maintain proper workflow for customer orders.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to contribute equally as an individual contributor or in a team environment.
- Experience working directly with customers and possess the ability to speak with customers in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- CAD/E, Microstation, AutoCad, or other similar design programs.
- Previous Outside Plant Construction Manager experience.
- Experience with working with city, county, and/or State agencies.
- Management of Contractor experience.
A college degree in Engineering or a related field and 0-2 years of professional-level experience; or 4+ years of professional-level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional-level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
