Position Summary

The Utility Maintenance Technician will oversee the daily upkeep, preventive maintenance, and cleanliness of various sites. This role requires a commitment to safety and productivity within an industrial maintenance setting. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as the technician may be required to assist at different locations, including potential overtime and weekend work. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and proficient in communicating issues to supervisors. While general objectives will be provided, the technician will determine the methods, work sequences, and scheduling to achieve assignment goals, all while adhering to specific policy guidelines. Sound judgment and common sense are crucial in executing all responsibilities and any additional tasks assigned by the Supervisor/Manager of Asphalt/Concrete Plant Operations. Minimal overnight travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and report unsafe conditions to supervisors or the Safety & Health Manager.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized work environment, complying with company and regulatory housekeeping standards.
  • Lead recycling efforts by utilizing site equipment to manage returned materials responsibly.
  • Oversee site cleanliness, ensuring the upkeep of the plant and yard, including daily cleaning of central mixers and containment areas.
  • Perform routine cleaning and lubrication of machinery components as per a schedule set by plant supervisors.
  • Conduct visual and auditory inspections of equipment to identify malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance staff to diagnose issues.
  • Assist in documenting maintenance activities, parts replacements, and equipment issues.
  • Support the disassembly of defective machinery and installation of new or repaired components.
  • Help assemble, install, and maintain piping systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Engage in training to operate and inspect loaders, skid steers, dump trucks, and sweepers.
  • Develop skills in using cutting torches and welding equipment safely.
  • Manually load and unload incoming and outgoing products and supplies.
  • Contribute to team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required, with less than one year of relevant experience preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: A valid North Carolina Driver's License is required.
