Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment (IonE). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in environmental sustainability, working closely with a dynamic team of scholars and practitioners.

About the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting original research in one or more areas of environmental sustainability, including adaptation, mitigation, biodiversity, clean energy, water and land, food systems, planetary health, environmental justice, natural capital, and decision support. The position involves working closely with a mentoring team to develop and execute research projects, managing multiple tasks and timelines, and disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other channels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting research in environmental sustainability, including developing research proposals, designing experiments or studies, collecting data, analyzing data using statistical methods or software, interpreting results, and documenting research findings.
  • Collaborating with team members to develop and implement research projects, including project goal setting, meeting planning, reporting progress, and identifying needs.
  • Developing and maintaining project management best practices, including organizing and documenting work in Basecamp, Google suite collaborative products, and team file organization structure.
  • Adopting IonE research software, data, and metadata best practices related to archiving, documentation, and accessibility.
Requirements
  • PhD in any disciplinary field, including interdisciplinary studies, with expertise or expressed interest in developing expertise in a particular aspect of sustainability.
  • PhD anticipated in 2025 or completed within the past 5 years (i.e., after December 31, 2019).
  • Willingness to relocate to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area or a statement of preference for remote work and willingness to regularly engage in person at IonE.
  • Candidates must be U.S. work eligible; non-U.S. scholars must have or be able to obtain a visa.
