Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pharmacist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and care for patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Guide providers and patients on best practices and established guidelines for care
  • Assure safe and effective use of drugs through clinical involvement
  • Dispense and control both prescription and non-prescription medicine
  • Successfully complete annual clinical competency evaluations
  • Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers
  • Direct pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals
  • Answer questions and provide information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals
  • Detect, report, and help minimize or manage adverse drug reactions and medication errors
  • Assist nursing and other disciplines or departments in admission and discharge planning and patient education related to medication use
  • Assume responsibility for and make decisions related to the provision of pharmaceutical services
  • Actively engage patients and clients with respect to customer service programs offered by the pharmacy
  • Identify problems related to aspects of drug use control and offer constructive ideas for resolution
  • Ensure that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed
  • Maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
  • Participate in the orientation and education of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and/or new department employees
  • Maintain professional competence by attending and presenting at conferences, continuing educational programs, reading current professional literature, and publishing clinical or practice-related experience or research
  • Participate in administrative, quality assurance, performance improvement, and research activities of the department
  • Supervise technicians in drug preparation and distribution duties
  • Maintain awareness of third-party Rx systems and resolve third-party rejection problems promptly
  • Participate in medication use evaluations, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Enter data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory
  • Instruct pharmacy technicians, interns, and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy state/federal law
  • Participate in planning and implementing changes in the pharmacy and improve productivity through participation in staff meetings and projects
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Ohio or be license eligible
  • West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
Preferred Qualifications
  • PharmD from an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Medication Therapy Management (APhA) Certification
  • Immunization (APhA) Certification
  • Specialty Pharmacy (CSP) Certification
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 60 days of hire date
Physical Requirements
  • Walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds and push 50 pounds
  • Dexterity required to finger, handle, and reach
