We have also been pioneers in safety evaluations, influencing both industry standards and governmental regulations to adopt life-saving technologies, from the introduction of seat belts in the 1960s to the implementation of automatic emergency braking in the 2020s.
Our automotive journalists have consistently led these initiatives.As the Automotive Content Strategy Leader, you will report directly to the head of CR's expansive content team.
Your role will involve shaping the strategic direction for CR's automotive content, collaborating closely with various stakeholders to ensure CR remains the authoritative source for both new and used car buyers seeking to purchase and maintain their vehicles confidently.
We seek a dynamic and innovative leader, adept in audience engagement and content strategy, who can blend their passion for mission-driven work with their editorial expertise to empower consumers.

This position is crucial in ensuring that CR's editorial uniqueness and direction in the automotive sector are engaging and consistent, aligning with the organization's goals to enhance impact and revenue.
Understanding the audience, the automotive marketplace, CR's competitive landscape, and the evolving technologies related to vehicles is essential for maintaining relevance with consumers.
Your Responsibilities Include:
Leading the implementation of the editorial strategy for automotive content, encompassing the development of materials across various platforms (digital, print, social media, video). This involves managing a team of writers and overseeing content editing, with a focus on delivering actionable, consumer-oriented guidance.
Monitoring product categories for ratings, reviews, and updates to ensure ongoing relevance and timeliness for audiences. Assisting in the execution of partnerships and new offerings that broaden CR's reach and revenue.
Acting as a CR authority on automotive topics externally, including in media and on social platforms.
Collaborating and executing the enterprise-wide automotive strategy by fostering strong relationships with leaders across the organization, including testing, marketing, new initiatives, and social responsibility.
Maintaining a thorough understanding of the organization's business and overarching objectives to grasp how the automotive category fits into the larger framework.
Grasping shifts in consumer behavior and the evolving automotive marketplace.Building and nurturing relationships with freelance writers and subject matter experts.
Overseeing and managing budgets. Completing training and professional development requirements promptly.
Executing all duties in alignment with CR's values, compliance program, and established policies and procedures.
Performing additional related duties and special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Attributes:
You possess comprehensive knowledge of the trends, opportunities, and challenges within the automotive industry.
You have experience applying this knowledge and innovative ideas on how CR can enhance its competitive positioning in this field.
You have substantial experience.At least eight to ten years in digital content strategy development, ideally in a leadership role, along with experience in writing, editing, and producing content for print.
You hold a relevant degree. A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, or a related discipline is preferred.You excel at crafting compelling, impactful content.
Your written and verbal communication skills are exceptional, enabling you to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
You leverage data to inform your decisions. Your ability to utilize data enables you to make informed, evidence-based choices. You value collaboration. Your skills in persuasion, negotiation, and influence are strong. You thrive in working with both internal and external partners to deliver effective solutions and achieve business objectives.Additional Preferred Qualifications:

FAIR COMPENSATION & INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are dedicated to fair and transparent compensation practices, striving to offer competitive, market-informed salaries. The target salary range for this position is $180,000 to $190,000. This range reflects the market standards in New York and California. Offers may vary for candidates in other locations. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the midpoint of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be determined by their unique combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
