Job Summary
The Lee's Summit Medical Center Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive training program designed to support the transition of new graduate nurses into professional nursing practice. This 12-month program provides a supportive environment for new nurses to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today's hospital environment.
Program Highlights
- Advanced Clinical Training: Participants will receive hands-on training in a specialty area, including monthly educational sessions and preceptorship training with a facility preceptor.
- Mentorship and Support: New nurses will be paired with experienced nurse leaders who will provide guidance and support throughout the program.
- Evidence-Based Practice Project: Participants will work collaboratively on an evidence-based practice project, applying their knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios.
- Professional Development: The program includes opportunities for professional development, including certification support and tuition assistance.
Responsibilities
- Assess Patient Condition: New nurses will assess patient condition during admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Perform Procedures: Participants will perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s).
- Document Care: New nurses will document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Teach Patients and Families: Participants will teach patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications, and possible side effects.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS): Participants must obtain BLS certification within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Participants must obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of employment.
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Participants must have an associate or bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Registered Nurse License: Participants must have a registered nurse license in the state.
