OBJECTIVE
To ensure the safety of students while crossing streets and navigating traffic; performs related duties as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary role of an employee in this position is to create a secure environment for students and assist them in safely crossing streets. This position operates under the supervision of the school Principal. The main responsibilities are carried out outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards from traffic.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilize standard crosswalk and safety equipment;
- Ensure a secure environment for students to cross busy streets at designated points;
- Manage traffic and pedestrian flow;
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and violations to the Principal or law enforcement as instructed;
- Document student behavior and violations to a supervisor or the Principal, as required;
- Conduct all tasks in accordance with District policies and safety protocols;
- May assist with lunchroom, playground, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned;
- Perform additional related tasks as necessary.
- Understanding of basic traffic laws and procedures;
- Knowledge of traffic control and pedestrian safety techniques;
- Familiarity with school rules and behavioral expectations;
- Experience with disciplinary and behavior management methods.
Ability to:
- Follow verbal and written instructions while adhering to District policies;
- Provide a secure environment for students crossing streets;
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations;
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation;
- Operate standard crosswalk and safety equipment;
- Establish effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and other personnel;
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Uphold confidentiality regarding students and District matters;
- Exhibit integrity and creativity in performing assigned tasks.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, with or without reasonable accommodation;
- Visual acuity to comprehend written materials and prepare documents;
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks and operate office equipment;
- Personal mobility and flexibility to perform job duties;
- Job tasks may require physical activities such as climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.;
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
Performance will be assessed annually by a supervisor.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
To be determined by the academic calendar. Regular attendance is a critical function of this role.
- Employment is considered "at will," meaning either the employee or the District may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.
