Position Title: Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) II

The Air Force (AF) Special Access Program (SAP) Security Support Services (SSS) plays a crucial role in overseeing enhanced National Security Objectives that support AF SAP interests through integrated security operations and management. This role involves providing multidisciplinary security support, including specialized analytical and program protection services, while remaining adaptable to evolving SAP security needs.

The ISSO is tasked with maintaining the appropriate operational security posture for information systems. This position requires close collaboration with the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Security Officer (ISO). The ISSO must possess the expertise necessary to manage the security elements of an information system and is often responsible for the daily security operations of the system. Responsibilities include physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident response, and security training and awareness. The ISSO will work closely with the ISSM and ISO to monitor the information systems and their operational environments, which includes developing and updating authorization documentation and implementing configuration management across authorization boundaries. This role also involves assessing the security implications of changes and making recommendations to the ISSM.

The primary focus is on supporting Special Access Programs (SAPs) for Department of Defense (DoD) agencies, including HQ Air Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). The ISSO will provide daily support for Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Special Access Program (SAP) activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the ISSM in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Prepare, review, and update security authorization packages.
  • Ensure proper procedures are established for clearing, sanitizing, and disposing of various hardware and media.
  • Notify the ISSM of any changes that may impact the authorization status of the information systems.
  • Conduct regular reviews of information systems to ensure compliance with security authorization requirements.
  • Coordinate any modifications to hardware, software, or firmware with the ISSM and Authorizing Official (AO) prior to implementation.
  • Monitor system recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are restored and functioning correctly.
  • Maintain current and accessible security-related documentation for authorized personnel.
  • Ensure audit records are collected, reviewed, and documented, including any anomalies.
  • Participate in required technical and security training relevant to assigned duties.
  • Conduct the cybersecurity portion of self-inspections, providing security coordination and review of all system assessment plans.
  • Identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and assist in implementing countermeasures.
  • Prepare reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems.
  • Perform ISSO duties in support of both internal and external clients.
  • Conduct security impact analysis for all configuration management changes affecting authorization boundaries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (4 years).
  • 2 - 5 years of related experience in roles such as System Administrator, Network Administrator, or ISSO.
  • Must meet position and certification requirements as outlined in DoD Directive M for Information Assurance Technician Level II or Information Assurance Manager II within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prior active duty in the U.S. Air Force is a plus.
