UTILITY BILLING CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I

Reports To: Customer Service Supervisor
Compensation: $17.64 Hourly
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hrs/week

Job Overview:
This role is responsible for executing clerical and accounting functions related to customer utility accounts. The tasks performed in this position are beyond entry-level responsibilities, involving routine problem-solving and adherence to established guidelines. Supervisors are available for consultation on complex issues and provide detailed instructions for new assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily cash transactions efficiently.
  • Calculate interest, taxes, or outstanding balances for billing purposes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for regular accounts and correspondence.
  • Provide information to the public on various inquiries.
  • Respond to written and telephone inquiries professionally.
  • Utilize computer input devices for data entry.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks related to account management.
  • Process service orders for water utility operations.
  • Develop and manage payment plans for customers.
  • Prepare bank deposits and process electronic transactions.
  • Issue invoices and receipts accurately.
  • Handle cash register operations and ensure cash security.
  • Collect and record funds from other departments.
  • Monitor and manage office supply inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in clerical accounting, cashiering, or call center operations.

  • Capability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and the public.

  • Familiarity with modern accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and business arithmetic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Typing skills at a reasonable speed.

Work Environment:
The position is office-based, requiring extended periods of sitting and the ability to access file cabinets for data management.
