Aquatic Safety Specialist

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking an experienced Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our aquatic staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our members and participants in our pools and aquatic facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in maintaining a safe aquatic environment, including providing work direction to staff and providing real-time feedback.
  • Coordinate lifeguard placement and rotations during shifts to ensure efficient guarding and safety.
  • May open or close the indoor and/or outdoor pool, support pool chemistry, and other support of the Aquatics Director as needed.
  • May act as a lifeguard during shifts, modeling standards and expectations throughout the shift.
  • Serve as the first level of contact responding and documenting incidents that may occur when other lifeguard staff need assistance.
  • Provide quality customer service to members and participants.
  • Assist with implementation of in-service training sessions.
  • Attend monthly in-service trainings.
Requirements:
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in lifeguarding.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • YMCA Leader Certificate (obtained within 90 days).
  • Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond, and remedy unsafe situations.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and ages.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and provide constructive feedback.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, remain alert with no lapses of consciousness, and be able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.

Employment Requirement:
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
