Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team at Eastern Connecticut Health Network. As a Registered Nurse in this role, you will provide high-quality patient-centered care, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and communicate effectively with patients and families.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients' conditions and care needs, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
  • Assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate pain management tools and techniques, and educate patients and families regarding pain management.
  • Develop and revise individualized plans of care as indicated by assessment and patient response to treatment, evaluating overall plans periodically for effectiveness.
  • Follow the seven medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes.
  • Document the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner, utilizing the appropriate tools.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations, utilizing critical thinking skills and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
  • Formulate and implement teaching plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, evaluating effectiveness of learning.
  • Demonstrate autonomous practice, consistent with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional growth and development, and serving as a professional role model and mentor.
Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and have and maintain a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Must have certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire or within 3 months of hire.
  • Obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified within one (1) year of completion of hire into position; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 2 years of hire into position and maintain certification while employed in this position.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess basic computer skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, making swift and efficient decisions, including patient restraint when responding to patient emergency codes. The successful candidate will maintain a good rapport/relationship and a cooperative working relationship with outside agencies, including Public Safety Officials, police, fire, EMS organizations, referring agencies, and Department of Child and Family Affairs (DCF).

Maintain clinical competence and awareness of all ECHN policies, procedures, and guidelines.
