Alaska Roteq is dedicated to being the leading provider of service, repair, and products in the State of Alaska. Our expansive facility specializes in the repair of rotating equipment, offering a range of services including machining, thermal spray coating, welding, balancing, field machining, and engineering solutions.
Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled machinist to join our team. This role involves the layout and execution of machining and repair tasks on both metallic and non-metallic materials, utilizing complex design drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions. The successful candidate will operate machine tools as dictated by work assignments and possess a comprehensive understanding of machining requirements specific to Alaska Roteq.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute work based on design specifications, sketches, and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Set up and adjust machine tools to ensure precise machining and repairs, adhering to tolerances of .0005" or less.
- Utilize measuring devices to verify component conformity to specifications.
- Grind tooling as necessary to complete machining tasks.
- Assist in training new machinists and machine operators.
- Maintain equipment, logs, and work areas in a clean and organized manner, performing routine maintenance as required.
- Ensure a safe working environment by checking parts for safety and adhering to safety protocols.
- Inspect fellow machinists' work for compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Follow company quality control policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to foster a respectful and trustworthy workplace.
- Adapt to various machines as required by operational demands, including potential overtime to meet customer needs.
- Comply with company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of four years of relevant experience or training.
- Experience with CNC Lathe and Mastercam is preferred.
- Familiarity with materials such as 410 & 316 Stainless, Inconel, K-monel, and CD4MUCU is advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret complex machining drawings and safety documentation.
- Proficient in basic shop mathematics and trigonometry.
- Capable of solving practical problems in varied situations.
- Certification from a trade machinist school is beneficial.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
- Must be able to pass random drug tests.
Physical Requirements:
The role requires regular standing, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift and move weights up to 100 pounds with assistance when necessary. Specific vision abilities include close vision and depth perception.
Work Environment:
Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels. Occasional travel for field projects may be required.
