Essential Qualifications:

Current licensure from the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers

Key Skills and Knowledge:
Proficient in delivering injury prevention and rehabilitation services
Capable of providing emergency medical assistance
Familiarity with therapeutic modalities and their application for treating athletic injuries
Ability to mentor and oversee student athletes and assistants
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities

Primary Responsibilities:
Design and implement a thorough athletic injury and illness prevention strategy for student athletes.
Attend training sessions and athletic events as designated by the athletic director.
Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical professionals, coaches, and staff.
Equip injured athletes with specialized gear and supervise its application.

Prepare athletes for competitions and practices by conducting assessments and utilizing tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective equipment as necessary.

Respond to emergencies and make prompt, independent decisions regarding injury management.

Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid triage, including evaluating injuries and determining whether an athlete requires further medical attention or should cease participation in the athletic event.

Develop specific protocols to be followed by coaches or student trainers in case of a medical emergency.

Identify and mitigate environmental hazards to athletes.

Rehabilitation and Recovery
Design and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation and recovery program for injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.
Set therapeutic goals and objectives tailored to individual athletes.
Utilize therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on the correct use of exercise equipment.
Monitor and document the rehabilitation progress of athletes. Establish criteria for progression and return to practice and competition.

Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards regarding the use of medications and therapeutic agents for the treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

Administrative Duties
Coordinate the scheduling of athletic physical assessments and screenings.
Select, train, and supervise student assistants.

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic records, including medical, accident, and treatment documentation as required.

Manage inventory of training supplies and equipment, and request additional supplies as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee the work of student assistants.

Equipment Utilized:
Exercise equipment and devices such as stationary bikes, pulleys, weights, whirlpools, paraffin baths, ultrasound machines, and cold packs.

Work Environment:

Mental and Physical Demands:
Maintain emotional stability under pressure.
Continuous walking and standing; moderate lifting and carrying; bending, kneeling, and reaching.
Work outdoors (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and indoors.
Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
Frequent travel across districts and states; irregular and prolonged hours.

Clearances Required
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance
Must adhere to safety and health protocols.
