Under the guidance of the Director of Behavioral Health Residency, the Licensed Professional Counselor Resident will play a vital role within our care team. The resident will effectively conduct patient evaluations and provide psychotherapy. Collaborating with our clinical team, the resident will develop and implement suitable treatment plans while offering patient education and interventions for both new and existing clients. In addition to delivering high-quality patient care, you will have opportunities for further educational experiences and clinical supervision toward licensure, enhancing your growth as a provider within our integrated practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct physical examinations and patient assessments, documenting medical histories and symptoms.
  • Develop integrated treatment plans and contribute to existing ones, which may involve prescribing medications and other therapies.
  • Order, administer, and interpret diagnostic tests, including digital and laboratory results.
  • Educate patients about medications, associated risks, benefits, and realistic outcome expectations.
  • Participate in weekly clinical meetings with the team and supervisors.
  • Diagnose health issues, recognizing changes in patient conditions and adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the administrative team to manage refills, prior authorizations, records, and rescheduling.
  • Engage with patients and their families to promote health management and illness prevention.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals and families when appropriate.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of patient progress.
  • Refer patients to external specialists or agencies when needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient interactions and progress.
  • Ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other clinical-related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Counseling from an accredited institution in Virginia.
  • Flexibility to work a hybrid schedule, with a portion of time spent onsite.
  • Upon successful completion of residency requirements, participants will transition to the Blackbird Clinical Services team for an additional period.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficient in computer-based data management systems and medical records technology.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Open to receiving professional and clinical feedback in a supportive environment.

  • Strong initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness.
