POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Attorneys' Office of the Arizona Supreme Court is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel.
The Staff Attorneys' Office consists of a dedicated team of attorneys and legal assistants committed to delivering exceptional support to the justices of the Arizona Supreme Court, focusing primarily on their adjudicative responsibilities while also assisting in rulemaking and case management.
The core responsibilities of this role include reviewing cases under the Court's discretionary jurisdiction and conducting thorough research, analysis, and drafting of timely memoranda regarding those cases. Senior Legal Counsel also aids the Court in criminal and civil appeals, motions, certified questions, miscellaneous petitions, court rule amendments, and matters related to attorney admission and discipline. Additionally, they provide guidance to the duty justice on motions for stay and other legal issues; draft orders for the Court's approval; proofread memoranda; participate in court committees as assigned; and collaborate with justices, their judicial assistants, clerks, and the Clerk's Office on all aspects of case management and enhancing the Court's judicial operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess a juris doctorate from an A.B.A.-accredited law school and be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona. Furthermore, a minimum of five years of active legal practice experience is required; a comprehensive understanding of relevant constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law; the ability to differentiate legal issues from advocacy and analyze complex legal problems; and the capability to draft timely memoranda and discuss them as necessary.
This role also necessitates excellent legal research, writing, and editing skills; proficiency in oral and written advocacy; strong time management and interpersonal skills; organizational abilities; and basic computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Outlook). Candidates must be prepared to address time-sensitive matters, which may involve working evenings and weekends, and demonstrate a commitment to adhering to strict security and confidentiality protocols as well as the Arizona Code of Judicial Administration.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in criminal law and at least five years of litigation experience in criminal, civil, disciplinary, or administrative court settings involving the research and analysis of intricate legal and constitutional issues.
Staff attorneys are required to work onsite for a full year of employment. Although telecommuting is currently permitted, it is at the sole discretion of the Court and subject to change.
Travel level: negligible.
SELECTION PROCESS:
