POSITION OVERVIEW

The Campus Security Specialist will be an integral part of the safety and security framework at The Westminster Schools. This role involves performing security patrols across the campus, managing traffic flow, and compiling incident reports as needed.

Supervisor: Director of Campus Safety & Security

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Position Status: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Regular, 12-month position.

Hours of Work: 40+ hours per week. The specialist must be prepared to work overnight, evenings, weekends, and varied shifts as required by the needs of the school.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as on-campus security, patrolling on foot or in a designated vehicle to ensure the safety and security of the community, buildings, and equipment.
  • Staying vigilant for unauthorized individuals and security violations.
  • Monitoring for and reporting irregularities, such as security breaches and safety hazards, and alerting the Director of Campus Security or emergency responders as necessary.
  • Managing campus traffic, including directing vehicles at entry points and overseeing parking.
  • Conducting security checks on doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secured; opening and closing buildings as required.
  • Engaging positively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Providing timely and accurate incident reports.
  • Identifying and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Participating in and completing required security training.
  • Exhibiting punctuality, responsibility, and dependability.
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude and a willingness to assist the school and department.
  • Performing other duties as assigned based on the dynamic needs of the school.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience in military, law enforcement, or security is preferred. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a customer service orientation are essential. The ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations is crucial. A commitment to diversity and inclusion is expected. Officers must adhere to the established Standard Operating Procedures of the Westminster Security Department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, reach with arms, climb stairs, and engage in moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoors. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and frequent walking on uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during regular business hours, with potential overnight and out-of-area travel as needed.
