Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Crossing Guard to join our team at West Ada School District. As a Crossing Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our students as they travel to and from school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate standard crosswalk and related safety equipment to ensure a safe environment for students to cross busy streets.
  • Provide traffic and pedestrian control to prevent accidents and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
  • Report hazardous conditions, situations, drivers, and violations to the building Principal or police, as directed.
  • Monitor student behavior and report any disciplinary actions or violations to a supervisor or the building Principal, as directed.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • May perform lunchroom, playground, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of traffic laws and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of traffic control and pedestrian safety methods, techniques, and objectives.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and observe District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide a safe environment for students crossing and waiting to cross streets to access school grounds.
  • Ability to discern and react appropriately to emergency or safety situations.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required records, files, reports, logs, statistics, and documentation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff members, and other District personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain student and District confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Physical Abilities
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.
  • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Must have a valid Idaho Driver's License and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job-related activities.
