Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I - Administration to provide clinical office support to physicians and surgeons. This role is responsible for performing patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical support to physicians and surgeons, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing, and collect and process specimens and point of care testing.
- Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
- Perform clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician.
- Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
- Provide set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques.
- Maintain logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and sterilization process.
- Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and dispose appropriately.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, Op Reports, test results, and home care forms.
- May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients.
- May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients, updating patient demographic and insurance information.
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant certificate program from an approved school OR 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
- Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
- BCLS certification required.
