Correctional Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Correctional Nurse to join our team at Amergis. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work in a correctional facility setting, providing high-quality patient care to the incarcerated population.
Job Summary:The Correctional Nurse will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensure the well-being of the patients. You will utilize your knowledge and skills to address the specific challenges and limitations of the correctional environment while providing care to your patient population.
Responsibilities:- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Perform focused interviews to identify specific patient needs
- Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition
- Conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates
- Make referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professional when necessary
- Determine the need for emergency hospital care and ensure that all medication is administered in accordance with standard operating procedures and as ordered by the authorizing authority
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from healthcare members and document actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
- Document the patient's plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions
- Identify and prioritize actions based on patient care requirements
- Monitor consistency between patient plan of care and actions of medical staff
- Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards
- Initiate and evaluate patient education
- Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions
- Document patient's response to nursing and other interventions
- Supervise, train, and direct other healthcare professionals on site such as LPNs, CNAs, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned/necessary
- Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices
- Minimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
