The Senior Revenue Auditor conducts professional evaluations of financial records and accounts of businesses to ensure adherence to revenue laws and regulations, and assesses tax obligations resulting from these audits.
The role demands a high degree of diplomacy when engaging with the public and necessitates the interpretation of laws and regulations pertaining to tax administration and enforcement.
Independent judgment and initiative are essential in executing complex field audits across various sectors. Interaction with the public, legal professionals, accountants, and other experts, as well as collaboration with fellow auditors and management, is a key aspect of the role. Audit methodologies are established in line with tax laws and departmental requirements.Auditors affiliated with Montgomery County primarily conduct audits for all county taxes imposed or authorized by the county.
Auditors working with the City of Montgomery focus on city sales and business taxes, as well as city business licenses. Occasionally, auditors may engage in coordinated audits with counterparts from other taxing authorities.The distinction between the Senior Revenue Auditor and the Revenue Auditor lies in the complexity of cases assigned to the Senior position.
Furthermore, the Senior Auditor is responsible for mentoring new auditors and providing assistance in the field with moderately complex cases assigned to the Revenue Auditor.
The Senior Revenue Auditor reports directly to the Assistant Revenue Manager (county).Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a closely related discipline, along with two (2) years of experience in revenue auditing.
Candidates must possess the Certified Revenue Examiner (CRE) designation and maintain this certification.NOTE:
Relevant education, training, and experience that equip the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be taken into account.
