Job Title: On-Call Juvenile Detention Officer

Job Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to work in a fast-paced environment, providing structured programs and activities while maintaining a high sense of safety and security. As an On-Call Juvenile Detention Officer, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, secure environment for juveniles, ensuring their care and programming needs are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain internal and external security of the facility on assigned shifts by conducting regular visual checks and inspections.
  • Inspect the facility to ensure cleanliness and maintain sanitary standards.
  • Serve as a Control Room officer, coordinating and monitoring communications, maintaining accurate headcounts, and granting entrance and egress from the facility.
  • Conduct intake screenings, verify authority to detain, and evaluate the physical and emotional status of juveniles.
  • Coordinate the release of juveniles, verifying completion of pending actions and updating related reports and records.
  • Input and update computer and manual files to complete incident, general, and juvenile personal accounts, and statistical reports.
  • Prepare and escort juveniles in transit to court appearances, other correctional facilities, and social service appointments.
  • Provide direct supervision, including creating a firm, fair, and consistent environment, providing educational and recreational programming, and addressing individual needs and concerns.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Physical Ability Test (PAT) standard.
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • First aid/CPR certification.
  • Food Handlers Permit.
  • Successful completion of the Washington State Juvenile Services Academy.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a secure 24-hour 7-days per week detention facility with male and female clients under the age of 18. You may be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, including violent or hostile individuals, inclement weather, and road and traffic hazards.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
