Pediatric Nursing Assistant Job Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, we are seeking a compassionate and skilled Pediatric Nursing Assistant to join our team. As a valued member of our healthcare team, you will provide empathetic care to our pediatric patients, their families, and visitors, upholding the highest standards of integrity and respect.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will engage in frequent face-to-face communication with patients and their visitors to convey essential information about treatment procedures and visiting hours. Your role will also involve encouraging and supporting patients who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform simple dressings, administer enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, as well as hot and cold compresses as directed.
  • Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
  • Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rates.
  • Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable and conducive environment for patients.
  • Feed patients requiring assistance to ensure they receive proper nourishment.
  • Bathe and dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of patients.
  • Maintain patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to ensure a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment.
Requirements:
  • One year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and patient care services under professional supervision.
  • NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved certified nursing aide training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services, complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references, successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen, meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
