Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Home Standby Installation

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Generac Power Systems. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in the design, development, and launch of new technical solutions and processes that reduce installation times and costs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, validate, and launch new technical solutions and processes that reduce installation times and costs
  • Travel to customer sites to value map the installation and commissioning process
  • Specify precise new product functional requirements and design, test, and integrate moderately complex components
  • Evaluate the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety
  • Design, develop, execute, and evaluate fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans
  • Oversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and validation, making necessary design adjustments
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during development testing, manufacturing, and/or field use
  • Develop Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA's, and provide recommendations during Design Reviews
  • Create and maintain Statements of Requirements (SOR), schematics, and BOMs
  • Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize moderately complex designs for manufacturability
  • Utilize CAD or CAE systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings
  • Support product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)
  • Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers
  • Travel to other Generac facilities as necessary
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience preferably within power generation or outdoor power equipment
  • Design experience with a variety of materials (i.e. plastics, aluminum castings, sheet metal) and basic knowledge of material specs and use
  • Experience in new product design and development
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projects
  • Experience developing component and/or system level test plans, test procedures, and test reports
  • Experience in the design layout and packaging of electromechanical components and systems
  • Ability to conduct analysis using FEA, CFD, etc.
  • Demonstrated written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate technical information to all audiences
  • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services, and processes
  • Technical Skills to include 3D modeling in Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD system
  • Experience with machine design
  • Previous experience with SAP or equivalent business ERP system
