Salary: $123,000 - $170,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

Job Description:

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced psychiatric nurse to join our mental health team at the Atlanta VA Healthcare System. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with mental health conditions, including substance use disorder and other psychiatric illnesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote personal growth and development of psychiatric-mental health nursing practice
  • Gains awareness of the principles and goals of domiciliary MH treatment by understanding practices related to patient-centered care, recovery-oriented principles, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with substance use disorder and/or MH conditions
  • Attends and observes nurse-led psychoeducational groups, uses therapeutic communication techniques, practices de-escalation techniques, utilizes recovery-oriented language, and provides oversight of the patient safe medication management program
  • Participate in shift report and warm hand-off, MH interdisciplinary treatment team, environment of care rounds, and identifies and reports psychiatric and medical care needs and emergencies as directed
  • Identifies safety concerns and hazardous items to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment of care, and documents nursing assessments, risk screens, nursing plan of care, patient safety rounds, and environmental of care rounds in accordance with facility policy
  • Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient

Requirements: To be eligible for this position, candidates must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working as a mental health RN is preferred.
