Job Title: Family Engagement Specialist

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Family Engagement Specialist to join our team in Atlanta. As a key member of our Refugee Youth Program, you will play a critical role in supporting the enrollment of eligible school-aged refugee youth into local schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct school intake interviews and gather school history information to support the enrollment process.
  • Design and implement weekly expanded School Orientation workshops for newcomer families and youth to facilitate their transition into the US K-12 school system.
  • Collaborate with school districts to identify key contacts, facilitate the enrollment process, and gather feedback to improve IRC's partnership with school districts.
  • Provide systems navigation and support to improve families' connections with schools and enhance students' engagement.
  • Build supportive relationships with refugee youth and families utilizing a trauma-informed approach to support students' academic and long-term goals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in an educational or social services setting, with a focus on family engagement or youth case management.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations, cross-cultural or overseas experience.
  • Strong understanding of how to navigate the US school system, the rights of immigrant families, and individual advocacy.
