Position Summary:
The House Supervisor is a Registered Nurse who takes on administrative duties for overseeing all nursing operations during their shift. In the absence of higher administrative personnel, this role extends to all hospital services. The Supervisor actively engages throughout the facility to ensure optimal nursing practices and overall hospital functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibits sound judgment in patient placement based on diagnosis, infection control principles, and individual patient needs.
- Conducts rounds in all patient care areas to assess patient conditions, staffing requirements, and provide support to nursing staff.
- Manages the effective allocation and use of personnel during the shift, considering staffing patterns and patient acuity.
- Provides hands-on patient care as necessary to support the nursing team.
- Actively participates in enhancing customer service outcomes and upholding Patient Rights.
- Coordinates with pharmacy for medication procurement when necessary.
- Facilitates effective communication among medical staff, ancillary departments, and nursing personnel.
- Evaluates and coordinates services between nursing and other departments continuously throughout the shift.
- Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and maintains competencies relevant to age and disability.
- Keeps the Chief Nursing Officer and Administration informed of significant events or issues that may impact operations.
- Adheres to safety protocols and ensures compliance among staff regarding personal protective equipment.
- Acts according to the Emergency Preparedness Plan during crises, knowledgeable of emergency codes and their implications.
- Implements hospital safety and injury prevention policies, reporting hazards immediately.
- Takes appropriate disciplinary actions for employee-related incidents and provides feedback to management regarding performance issues.
- Communicates effectively with administrative staff about hospital needs and improvement suggestions.
- Promotes adherence to hospital policies and administrative directives.
- Supports staff in identifying and reporting medication errors and adverse drug reactions in line with hospital protocols.
- Pronounces death in patients with designated status as per regulations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local laws relevant to nursing practice.
- Understands and adheres to standards set by CMS and JCAH applicable to this role.
- Engages in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives, demonstrating knowledge of departmental or hospital-wide projects.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire and must remain current.
- PALS certification within six months of hire and must remain current.
- A minimum of three years of experience in Med/Surg or Acute Care nursing.
- BSN preferred.
- Management experience is a plus.
- Training in CPI within six months of hire is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Highly motivated with a willingness to take on assigned responsibilities.
- Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and database management.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous materials or infections.
