Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Permit Technician to join our team at the City of Stafford. As a Permit Technician, you will play a critical role in processing permit applications, maintaining division databases, and providing exceptional customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process permit applications, maintain division databases, and track information on permits, plan reviews, building inspections, and code enforcement.
  • Provide technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, and the general public on codes, ordinances, procedures, and requirements for permits, licenses, and inspections.
  • Enter data to track information on permits, plan reviews, inspections, code enforcement, and health inspections for commercial and residential building permits.
  • Assist applicants with forms and technical questions related to the building permit process.
  • Track projects from initial application through issuance of Certificate of Occupancy.
  • Review building plans for compliance with Federal, State, and City building rules, regulations, codes, and ordinances.
  • Research building code questions for contractors, developers, division staff, and the public.
  • Maintain and update revisions to codes and ordinances, and provide notifications of revisions to builders, contractors, developers, engineers, and architects.
  • Review, accept, and process permit applications and documents, assess permitting fees, provide receipts for fees paid, and reconcile and close out cash drawers at the end of each business day.
  • Maintain, update, and review new building permit software.
  • Provide technical assistance in the use of computer software and databases.
  • Maintain office supplies and digital files for various zoning cases and construction permits.
  • Schedule meetings as needed and attend night meetings and training as necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and three (3) years of administrative/clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Notary Public.
Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
