Job Summary

Fort Norfolk Retirement Community, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hair Stylist to join our team at our premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located in Norfolk, Virginia. As a Hair Stylist, you will be responsible for providing exceptional cosmetology services to our residents, ensuring their needs are met and their expectations are exceeded.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Ensure that residents' needs are met and their expectations are exceeded by providing exceptional customer service.
  • Assist with Salon Operations: Assist with scheduling appointments, inventory management, and identifying areas for improvement to ensure smooth salon operations.
  • Participate in a Team: Motivate other staff members and provide guidance and support as needed to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor and Staff: Collaborate with the supervisor, other staff, and residents to ensure smooth operations and enhanced service delivery.
  • Maintain Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations: Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations, including infection control, sanitation, and hazardous waste management.
  • Identify Opportunities for Revenue Growth: Offer suggestions to the supervisor and management regarding opportunities to increase salon revenue, such as introducing new services, promoting loyalty programs, or collaborating with external vendors.
  • Ensure Salon Equipment is Serviced and Repaired: Ensure that salon equipment is serviced and/or repaired as needed, including scheduling regular maintenance checks and coordinating repairs with vendors.
  • Stay Informed about Relevant Regulations: Stay informed about relevant regulations, licenses, and certifications related to the salon industry and assist with ensuring that all salon operations adhere to legal requirements and regulations.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., cosmetology, business administration) preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of work-related experience in a salon or customer service role; experience with elderly and dementia population preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Current license or certification in cosmetology or related fields with the VA Board of Barbers and Cosmetology.
  • Skills and Abilities: Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and sanitation; must have knowledge of health and safety regulations. Ability to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively. Ability to work with the elderly population in a courteous, friendly, productive manner, demonstrating patience, compassion, flexibility, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.
